THE APPS OF THE FUTURE

Hundreds of millions of awesome apps are available in the Apple iOS App Store and Google's Google Play's electronic shelves. The app world is really overwhelming. In fact, Statista projected 197 billion mobile app downloads in 2017. There are so many apps but the ones that really survive and translate into revenues are the ones that make users not only get the best of their phones but of their lives.

Based on the past years' trends and new Information Technology innovations, these will be the pillars for future app development:

1) Easier Communication Experiences: The most downloaded apps by the users in 2018 were the messaging and social network apps, the ones that help regular and corporate users to connect with their business partners, friends, and beloved ones.

The most famous are WhatsApp (+2 billion downloads), Facebook Messenger (+1 billion of downloads only in Google Play), Facebook (+4 billion of downloads), Instagram (+1 billion downloads), Twitter (+300 million of monthly users and more 830 million of downloads according to makeuseof.com), LINE (711 million downloads), Viber (+600 million of downloads), are just some of them.

The apps of the future will be highly focused on simplifying, even more, the communicative process between two mobile device owners and among bigger crowds. Users are going to see upgrades like: the social apps operating outside the digital device, they will allow an easier data transfer (thanks to the arrival of 5G tech) and, undoubtedly, they will have higher security protocols.

2) Artificial intelligence and Augmented reality for everyone. Artificial Intelligence is one of the major bets in the business, videogames and many other industries. Automated responses are just the tip of the iceberg, as businesses like Google, Amazon, Ikea even journalism agencies like Associated Press are using this innovation -internally and externally- to change and upgrade their workforce.

One of the main objectives for the brands to invest in this sector, it doesn't matter if it’s weak or strong AI, is to offer a 24/7 optimal customer service that simulates the human approach, intelligence, reasoning and self-correction qualities, which will lead to a stronger bond among brands and consumers without requiring human intervention.

Augmented reality combines real-life elements with fictional ones. Brands will take advantage of this huge marketing vehicle and will be able to take their stores to wherever the users want, like IKEA that helps their customers to display their potential future living room furniture by using AR. 

3) Apps connected to everything: clothes, car, work...even shower! Finally, Android and iOs users can expect that the world famous communication apps may not change a lot in the future but what surely will happen is that they will become a lot more integral. Now, you can use Whatsapp on your PC, but what about using it in your car, in the living room, or even at the shower by an augmented reality screen, while simultaneously track other daily things thanks to the Internet of Things improvements that fit in the palm of a hand. Some honorable mentions in this niche market are "U" by Moen, Nest smart home apps.
